jranieli
Filed under: * Giants 101 — Dan Benton According to the San Diego Union-Tribune: "As of last night, no deal had been struck, but sources said yesterday the Chargers are entertaining suitors for linebacker Donnie Edwards." This leads me to believe those Internet rumors floating around about Chad Morton to the Chargers were more than just that. Earlier in the off season the Giants had talked to the Chargers about Donnie Edwards but talks went cold. Now that Edwards and the Chargers cannot get onto the same page a move is more likely. With Carlos Emmons still on the sidelines taking up cap space and a roster spot, this seems to make a lot of sense. There have also been rumors of late that the Giants were talking to the Chargers about about acquiring Jamal Williams, Ryon Bingham or Brandon McKinney for Chad Morton (and possible draft picks depending on the player). The Chargers are in serious need of a KR specialist and the Giants seem to have an overload of them. Talks between these two seem to make sense under these circumstances. I guess we’ll see where this ends up. Pretty interesting, I would trade Morton for Jamal Williams in a second. He is only 23.

NeMesiS
Emmons has been a liability. Is this Donnie Edwards guy any good? He's good, but very old. I don't think its worth it really.
jranieli
Here is an update, again credit Dan Benton from Giants 101 Here is a quote directly from Fox Sports - Now the coaching staff is getting more confident in Jennings as a receiver while special teams guru Mike Sweatman is more and more assured that the kid can handle the return duties as well. That would free up Morton for assignment — as in a trade to perhaps San Diego, which lost super returner Darren Sproles for the season, in return for a defensive tackle. “No comment,” said general manager Ernie Accorsi. “We are not now discussing a trade with any team involving any of our players.” Well, “not now” doesn’t mean never. That “no comment” thing followed by a comment always gets me. I remember when Accorsi said they were no longer talking to Lavar Arrington and his agent - or even further back when there were no on-going talks with Plaxico Burress and his agent. Usually when Accorsi says “No” it usually means “Yes”. We’ll see.

gmenroc
Morton for a DT would be a great move. I'm not so sure about needing another LB.
Nas
Morton for a DT would be a great move. I'm not so sure about needing another LB. Our LBs are fine... and that's assuming we cut Emmons (my personal assumption). Hey whatever happened to that 400+ lb DT (Ted Washington I think)? Is he still in the NFL? Goliath
Filed under: * Giants 101 — Dan Benton Pretty interesting, I would trade Morton for Jamal Williams in a second. He is only 23. I like Donnie Edwards but he is more suited to be a 4-3 ILB when we have Antonio Pierce. Also, he is pretty old, 35? As for Jamal Williams, I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. We could afford losing Morton: not a big cap hit and we have McQuarters, Ponder, Moss, Jennings and Ward as possible PR/KR. That's plenty!

Goliath
I don't understand why they would trade a solid DT for a PR but...
njsmalls
As long we get a pass rusher, I'm fine with the trade.

Ditto
Morton for a DT would be a great move. I'm not so sure about needing another LB. I'd rather we continue beefing up our secondary.
