Blue Jeans
Now is as good a time as any to break down as I did last week what the NL East has to to do to catch the Mets should they play just .500 If the Mets play 36-37 the rest of the year: Philly has to go 49-26 to tie (.653) Atlanta has to go 49-24 to tie (.671) Florida has to go 51-25 to tie (.671) Was has to go 51-21 to tie (.708) As noted last week, and each week from here out, The Mets will play better than .500 and no otehr team in this division is going to play over .650 anyway... Blue Jeans
Please don't jinx it You can't jynx it, it's math. 1) None of those teams will get to those records. 2) We will be many games over .500 second half. 3) No more Lima 4) No more Matsui 5) We have an X on the standings in early September
Ditto
You have to be crazy not to go with the Mets at this point, but forget the math. Shit happens. A nine game winning streak by the Phillies and a nine game losing streak by he Mets, you're looking at a different season. Once streaks start, players start looking over their shoulders. Look up the '64 Philies. The Mets have a couple of old starters that could go down with bad or tired arms. And what would happen if Wright, Reyes, or Beltran go down? Is there enough depth to replace one of them for a couple of months? What about Delgado, the leader of your infield? How long can you replace him. Pedro is already down and he was bound to be shut down to a start ever 7-8 days anyway going into the playoffs. Glavine will probably go every 6-7 days, too. Is there enough depth? Yeah. If it is passed the trading deadline our farm system is one of the best in the majors (other than the Marlins). Worry about the yanks even making it close to the playoffs.
