Plax 4 Prez
Mets carry eight-game winning streak into interleague play Baltimore (30-38) at NY Mets (42-23) 7:10 pm EDT FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- Scoring before their starting pitchers take the mound, the New York Mets produced an impressive eight-game road winning streak. They will try to carry that success in the opener of a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles. David Wright capped a four-run first inning with a three-run homer in Philadelphia on Thursday, and the Mets held on for a 5-4 triumph. It marked the first time in major league history a team scored in the first inning in each game of an eight-game road winning streak. Carlos Beltran hit what turned out to be a key sacrifice fly in the fifth inning Thursday, giving him at least one RBI in every game of New York's winning streak. During that span, Beltran has hit .471 (16-for-34) with four homers and 16 RBI. The Mets have averaged over nine runs per game during a winning streak that has produced a 9 1/2-game lead atop the National League East Division. However, Alay Soler (2-1, 3.33 ERA) has not needed much in the way of support of late, allowing just one run in 16 innings this month. Five days after allowing one run in seven innings of a a 4-1 win at the Los Angeles Dodgers, the 25-year-old Soler pitched a two-hit shutout at Arizona on Saturday. The Cuban righthander has posted a 0.56 ERA on the road but has gone 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA in two starts here. The Orioles will counter with lefthander Erik Bedard (5-6, 5.69), who was saddled with a 4-0 loss at Minnesota on Sunday despite allowing only two runs and five hits in five innings and recording a season-high nine strikeouts. Since posting a 2.77 ERA en route to wins in each of his first four starts in 2006, Bedard has gone 1-6 with a 7.26 ERA in his last 10 starts. After winning Monday's opener of a three-game series at Toronto, Baltimore dropped the final three games to fall a season-high eight games under .500. The Orioles now have to contend with the Mets, who are a major league-best 17-5 in series openers, including 10-1 here.

xxi-xxv
This Bedard kid has good stuff. Mazzone gets this kids head on right and he might be a good one. Its hard to find a young lefty that throws mid 90's, unless of course you dangle Victor Zambrano for one and then a team cannot refuse.

Of course, the Mets always seem to help out young pitchers who are struggling that we have never seen before. Although we actually hit him a little bit yesterday, it's unbelievable how much we struggle against young talented pitchers that we face for the first time. That's why I'm glad we didn't get Cole Hamels against the Phillies. I'm sure he would've shut us down.

We need to be up by atleast 5 for Heilman to come in an inning
