Sephiroth
First the bad... Nate Solder has only a 66.0 rating from Pro Football Focus through the first 3 weeks of the season, good for 27th best offensive tackle so far. The good news... the other free agents from this summer are actually doing worse. Andre Smith (Cincinnati Bengals): 59.3 Andrew Norwell (Jaguars): 57.4, No. 54 overall offensive guard Chris Hubbard (Browns): 57.5, No. 55 offensive tackle Weston Richburg (49ers): 60.4, No. 20 overall center Justin Pugh (Arizona Cardinals): 51.3, No. 64 overall guard
Tempest
Not surprising and I expect everyone on the list to have their numbers improve as the season continues.
BlueInCanada
This past FA Oline pool was one of the worst in recent memory. Solder is a tackle on the downside of his career, but he was the best available and Getty had to do something with the Oline.

I know a player may be contractually obligated but there must be some one. Both of those leagues have a UFA pool right? How about other teams practice squads.... can you trade PS guys?....I don't see why not. I am just throwing spaghetti at the wall.
Gman329
Remember too, Solder had a bad early season last year, before playing very well in the second half.
CrazedDogs
They can sign players from other leagues, but usually they're known commodities. They would already be in the NFL if they were up to it.

Quality linemen are not an easy thing to come by, you are not going to pluck a stud from the CFL or AFL

I am just throwing spaghetti at the wall. much like the rest of the NFL it's difficult to find quality players at every position. Look at Dallas that oline is having a really down year so far. The Jags oline was called one of the best last year, this year without Fornette they look like garbage then again it could just be Bortles trashing up the joint. You can't just go out and grab a good player who will be any sort of upgrade outside of finding some gem who's usually already looked up by some team. Herc
The jags o-line was not good the past few years. Where did you hear that?
BlueInCanada
The jags o-line was not good the past few years. Where did you hear that? All throughout the playoff run it was "look what Bortles can do with this new improved oline" PFF and even NFL had them as a top 15 unit in the NFL last year. Problem was their guards couldn't stay healthy, still had by far the best rushing game in the NFL and Bortles was what the least touched QB in the NFL last year. Herc
I dont know about that narrative. They went from 22 to 15 on PFF from 2016 to 2017. Bortles was sacked 24 times last year which was more than plenty of other starters and for all the talk about their great running game, fournette averaged 3.9 yards per carry last year. The offense always looks its best when they move away from heavy running. All I heard all last year in the media was how horrible the 11th highest rated qb was until the Pittsburg game. Now everyone just shuts the fuck up about him since

Treehugger
DEFENSIVE LINE RANKING, WEEK 3: 9th Led by defensive interiors Damon Harrison and Dalvin Tomlinson, New York’s defensive line is tied for eighth in total run stops (25) and ranks fifth in average depth of tackle (1.55) on run plays. Rookie edge defender Lorenzo Carter, a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has also stood out, as he ranks tied for 10th among qualifiers in pass-rush productivity (8.9) with first-round pick Bradley Chubb. Herc
Really because without Fornette the media is having a hay day with how unreliable and inconsistent Bortles is. Thats funny because the results without him say otherwise. Small sample size but theyre 4-1 without him and Bortles numbers are way better in every way. Its just more evidence that the sports media just regurgitate each others Hot takes and dont actually watch games or do simple cursory research before talking

Herc
Point isnt about Bortles. Its that the o-line has been bad to average and thats why a cash strapped team paid out the ass for norwell
