Treehugger
NFL to pay back taxpayers for 'paid patriotism' scandal Kevin Boilard - 74 minutes ago The NFL has agreed to pay taxpayers back a total of $723,734 for acts of sponsored patriotism before and during games, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell. This would only account for a fraction of the $6.8 million the Pentagon reportedly paid professional sports teams for the patriotic displays. The NFL was the main beneficiary of these payouts, as its teams received $6 million of that money. Deadspin published a list of the 10 teams that earned the most from the "paid patriotism" scandal, and the Atlanta Falcons topped the list at $879,000. Other NFL teams that made the list were the New England Patriots ($700,000), Buffalo Bills ($650,000), Baltimore Ravens ($534,500), New Orleans Saints ($472,875), San Diego Chargers ($453,500), Seattle Seahawks ($453,500) and Indianapolis Colts ($420,000). Gman329
Paid propaganda is more like it. Don't have a reasoned discussion about the wisdom of jumping into a war, just wave the flag and maybe chant "USA" while you're at it. (sorry if this post is more suitable for P&R) I was just talking about this the other day. I get that it's a tough job, but do we have to fellate the soldiers before every professional sports game? Other countries don't do this shit.
CrazedDogs
Some countries do.... North Korea, for example. Don't kid yourselves.... we're living in an iron fist as much as anybody. Ours is just wearing a nice comfortable glove.

I've always gotten the impression the the Giants support towards vets and FDNY was very genuine and personal, and I'd hate to find out otherwise. Bigblue25
The NFL fined Josh Norman last year for wearing American flag shoes, that's when I knew the Salute to Service stuff was bullshit

The season opener is on 9/11 and pisses me off they put the Giants on the road. I know it shouldn't

We should so long as we keep spreading them across the world like jam on toast as a reminder of that while you are watching your game.

NYG Hampton 27
Yeah Bill Burr brings this up on his podcast every now and then, also apparently they give a very small fraction of the profits from all the pink stuff to cancer related charities. It's all about making the NFL more money and attracting more fans, and this more money.

JMFP
If the NFL had any class, it would have refused payment. But they don't have any class. And our government is paying millionaire NFL stars to wave an American flag while thousands of homeless veterans are out on the streets. Very sad.
