BronxRik
Charles Johnson to visit New York Giants on Sunday The New York Giants could be in the market for a new high-profile defensive end if they decide to let Jason Pierre-Paul walk. Could Charles Johnson fill the void? Johnson, who was released by the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, will visit with the Giants on Sunday, a source informed of his plans told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on Saturday. The emergence of Kony Ely coupled with Johnson's injury history and his $11-million salary-cap hit ultimately made him expendable for the Panthers. Still, given the right circumstances, Johnson could prove to be a valuable asset for any team eyeing the free-agent market for a big boost of defensive help. The big question is whether the 29-year-old pass rusher can rediscover the spark that was snuffed out by ongoing hamstring issues that limited him to just nine games last season. If the Giants do decide it's time to move on from Pierre-Paul, they'll need a steady and reliable starter to help turn around a defense that ranked last in the league in total defense (420.3 yards per game). http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000641556/article/charles-johnson-to-visit-new-york-giants-on-sunday
Storm
The Giants need to stay away from injury prone players simply out of principle alone. I don't care how much of a chance he has of "rediscovering" his spark.
Mr. P
I wouldn't describe him as injury prone.
Allstarjim
Prior to last season, he went Seven seasons and the most he missed was 3 games 7 years ago. I get that he had trouble last year (9 starts) but from 2010 through 2014 (5 seasons) he missed a whopping 3 games. I think the injury prone label is unfair. Storm
Fine. Then with their track record of going after players who had an injury filled final season with their team....and then having them fail to stay healthy as a Giant...the Giants should solely go after players who have never been injured at all. With the history of this team's strength and conditioning problems, it would just be a questionable decision to continue to go after guys who are 1. Aging and 2. Spent the previous year injured. Storm
Good luck. Yeah, no kidding. I'm just saying, I would not even entertain signing Mario Williams or Charles Johnson.
Treehugger
I'd sign either one but the price has to be right.
Herc
Well at least we know they're prioritizing pass rush so that's good

gmenroc
I think there is value of having a veteran presence on the line. If they're starting FA with a veteran DLineman to serve in a somewhat rotational role, and most importantly, pay them accordingly...the I can't hate the signing. But if they're looking at Williams and Johnson as starters to build around...then it's a sketchy start, at best.
Sephiroth
1 sack in 9 games played last year... Yeah, but if you get 11 in the last six and don't blow your hand apart, you're worth a big contract...

gmenroc
So apparently Reese spent his time with Charles Johnson talking about how awesome it is to stay with one team your whole career...smart move....
