osi724dasack
Nicks was better and still is better. He will play this year, Cruz will not. Cruz is older with more serious injuries and higher pay. Nicks will come back play well and resign 2 years for cheap, while we cut Cruz save more $$ and make a big splash in FA and draft another WR early
osi724dasack
Nicks game vs GB in the division game plus 10 catches (7 for 1st down on 3rd down) In the damn super bowl make him forever a great Giant. This has a Chase Blackburn feel to it... 2011 sign Blackburn late in the year Bam

osi724dasack
Ugh I'm gonna get baited so hard in this thread tomorrow Lol my bad, I just ignore the Nicks hate, it's like a football Iq test sometimes. Too bad we all know each other so well and I'm just a dick :-(

Storm
Really? Because I was just thinking how fruitless this debate turned out to be as both players haven't been able to effectively come back from injury. But you're right, at least Nicks isn't completely broken right now. In reality, aside from the half of a season we got from Cruz, we could have let both players walk and gotten by. It's ironic because neither lasted and we still have both but nicks is back for cheap! I'll be so happy if he gets Whites snaps
NightFire
It's really too bad 80 and 88 couldn't have lasted longer; money aside. That was a great SB run.
Nas
It doesn't make sense to have the same debate now using the old parameters.. things were different then...
Allstarjim
Both players you could argue were better than the other at differing points. Now it doesn't even matter. Cruz is on IR, and we are looking for any contribution at all from Nicks.
Mr. P
And if either stayed as good, we may have never drafted the best of them. ODB.
NightFire
I'd take a healthy Cruz and Nicks over OBJ. If they were both healthy the Giants could have filled other positions.
Herc
That's an interesting topic. I don't think we were signing both nicks and Cruz in any scenario but if nicks stayed at his 2011 form and we chose him instead do we still draft beckham with the team still thinking that randle is a keeper? Or do we take Martin instead?
Gman329
I'm happy with the way things worked out. Yes, we still need OL help but Odell is a special talent.
CrazedDogs
I'd take a healthy Cruz and Nicks over OBJ. If they were both healthy the Giants could have filled other positions. That's difficult to consider.... OBJ is the closest thing we've had to a generational talent since LT.
Iceman_NYG
OBJ is on his way to becoming the best WR in the league. No way I would have taken a healthy Cruz and Nicks over OBJ. This kid is going to be a permanent highlight reel fixture. Giants can still fill other positions through smart drafting and intelligent free agency - but unfortunately....that hasn't happened. There seems to be a huge talent void in Wr's. Lots of teams struggling to put decent receivers on the field.

Also the Giants would have been probably drafting lower so OBJ may have not been an option.
Herc
That's a fair point. As much as Martin was a great pick (and I was totally wrong about h not being worth the pick) I'm glad things worked out the way they did cuz it's fun as hell having beckham on the team

Herc
I think so too based on what I saw out of him during tennesse's preseason. My expectations for him aren't very high because a lot of teams passed on him during the season but If he could contribute at all to a playoff run Id be ecstatic

gmenroc
I think the fact that Jones is having the season he's having tells Giants fans that he could've done the same here. I think that situations, teams, coaches are so different that players can succeed in one place and not do much in another. Whether it's offensive fit, other players on rosters affecting depth charts, personalities, or any other of a million different facets...there are reasons why a player can do well in one place and not so well in another. The greats transcend that and prove their worth regardless of where they go... For that reason, I think even had Jones stayed, he could've started opposite OBJ and I still don't know that he'd be putting up the same numbers he is in Green Bay. gmenroc
PP had earned a roster spot and had youth on his side. Comparing those two, I couldn't complain too heavily that PP was the choice at the time. In hindsight, of course you'd take JJ's production...but again, there is no guarantee that JJ would have done the same on our team that he has in GB. Matter of fact, he could have been worse than PP was....
