Mr. P
New York Giants offensive lineman Will Beatty’s season is officially over. The team’s second-round pick in 2009, who had pectoral surgery for an injury suffered in May that landed him on the PUP list, will undergo rotator cuff surgery, a procedure that head coach Tom Coughlin said is unrelated to Beatty’s pectoral issue. On Monday, head coach Tom Coughlin got testy over questions about Beatty, saying, “Will is going to practice this week and the decision will be made. That’s all you’re going to get, I’m sorry, but that’s it.” With Beatty done for the year—and perhaps as a Giant given the presence and development of Ereck Flowers—the New York Giants offensive line will apparently stay as it is. http://insidefootball.com/2015/11/12/will-beatty-to-remain-on-pup-have-rotator-cuff-surgery/
Mr. P
Gotta think he will be a post-june 1st cut. Will get over 6m in cap space if he is.

Opted for surgery. so it sounds like something he could have played through, but since he wasn't getting his old job back from Flowers he chose to end his season with surgery. BleedinBlue
Honestly, I thought it was going to be a calf injury. LMAO A shame really, but the Giants will have a lot of cash for free agents next year - even if they don't cut him. I don't know whose going to be a FA, but you can bet your ass the Giants will go all out for the top guy available. And they better concentrate on the backside of the defense as well. And the LBs on the defense. Also the D-line. A RB or two might not hurt, and also a complimentary receiver to pair with Beckham. Maybe at least one run-blocking O-lineman. Oh, and an NFL TE. Aside from that, this is one hell of a roster Reese has put together.

That makes very little sense to me. It's a rotator cuff, which you need for every OLine position. If it was something like a knee sprain or something that limited his mobility a bit, I could see how moving him inside might make it a more managable situation...but a rotator cuff? JMFP
I was wrong about JPP, and right about Beatty.....I didn't think either of them would contribute in 2015. Two of Reese's biggest draft picks.....looks like we'll get 1/2 a season out of one of them. In JPP's case, if he plays to 75% of his former ability I'd be surprised....but he's already surprised me. I've never been a fan of Beatty....would much rather have a guy like David Diehl - steady if unspectacular.
gmenroc
That's a shame about Beatty. Was looking to see him/Flowers in the same way many were looking forward to Cruz/Beckham. I think the offense seems to be coming around. If we make big splashes in free agency, it damn well better address the secondary's pass defense as well as the pass rush. Storm
He's better than Newhouse ... but Flowers will the Giants all pro perennial LT over the next 10 years Man, I remember when Beatty was actually playing no one thought he was any good, especially last season. I think Beatty is on Newhouse's level, but he's not better. They both suck.
Gman329
Disagree. Beatty has - or had - a ton more talent than Newhouse but he's played up to his ability only in flashes. Maybe it was due to the off field injuries - detached retina, sciatic nerve in his back, torn pec and rotator cuff - but I never got the feeling Beatty really had the burning desire to play football, especially after the big contract. For the 2012 NFL season, Pro Football Focus ranked Beatty as the #2 overall LT in the NFC with a 22.3 rating, behind Pro-Bowler Joe Staley. Pro Football Focus also ranked Beatty as the #3 Pass Blocking LT in the NFC, and #2 Run Blocking LT in the NFC (#5 in the NFL), making him one of the most balanced and productive LT in the NFL

I think Beatty is on Newhouse's level, but he's not better. They both suck. I was never a huge fan of Beatty either, but he was definitely better than Newhouse. I was appalled at the contract we gave him. We paid him like he was a perennial pro-bowler. But I understood that one of the hardest positions to fill is a good left tackle to protect the right handed QB's blind side. It wasn't like there were a lot of options when we gave Beatty the treasure chest of gold. So glad we have Flowers and that he's working out. He'll get even better over time. We need a stud RT, some LB's, a true free safety, and definitely someone who can disrupt the opposing QB with some edge rushers. I don't think we need more RB's...simply focus on Vereen and Darkwa and Jennings as backup. Williams has basically proven he's not up for the task (IMO). And I still believe that a good RB has a lot to do with a good O-line...just look at how DeMarco does in Philly without Dallas' o-line. It was discovered that it really helped his career to run behind a truly gifted o-line.
Mr. P
His average yearly salary is pretty much middle of the road for left tackles.
Treehugger
2012 Beatty was fantastic. 2013 Beatty was crappy, but playing hurt. Last year somewhere in the middle. If he can get through 2016 preseason without another huge setback he should at least be well rested, with all the niggling issues out of the way, and there's a decent chance we see 2012 Beatty again. That's the guy they paid for and I'll be pretty surprised if they cut him before then. gmenroc
I think too, Beatty should be given the opportunity to fully recover and give it a go. That said, an OT in the first 2 rounds should be a priority with a G coming somewhere in the 3rd to 5th rounds. Pass rush and secondary need to be sprinkled in the upper 3 rounds as well. I'm not up on college prospects nor our draft position...still a long way off before that discussion starts...but it's no secret where our deficiencies lie at this point and we need to be constantly evaluating our roster. Tempest
I was really looking forward to having Beatty back at this point in the season and yeah it is disappointing that there is yet another setback for him and the team. From what I've read the rotator cuff is something that happened this year. Can't really blame him for opting to fix it now rather than later, especially if he can't play at 100%. If he plays now with the injury and does poorly, Giants are going to be looking for a pay cut or just cut him. Then his performance while injured might not be all that great and hurts his future prospects on top of waiting till the offseason for surgery/recovery. Really don't think it is a good idea to cut him especially since there is no depth at tackle on the roster or available in free agency. I'll take Will Beatty over a Jake Long and Marshall Newhouse for the next three years. I understand everyone is thinking about paying all that left tackle money to Will Beatty now that his spot is in contention. Giants don't have a salary cap problem, it is a talent and durability problem. Giants are going to be more focused on continuing to rebuilding the defense this coming offseason than working on the offensive line through free agency and the draft. When it comes to injuries, players and teams tell as little as possible to protect themselves. The news came out now because of the expectation that Beatty would be ready now. Gman329
He was supposed to be a can't miss franchise LT, drafted 2nd overall, but didn't have the quick feet to handle the speed rush. They finally moved him to Guard, where he had some decent seasons.
