gmenroc
Unless we the all knowing fans decide it is time the rookies start. We must know now if the guy is a bust. Not me. If the old vet gives you a better chance to win, play that guy. That said, I think there is value in getting the rookies on the field in game situations. Whether that be garbage time or special teams or whatever, I think that being on the field shows you what you really have in a player far more than any league mandated, player association limited practice. Exactly. Hands on experience gives a player the best chance to succeed... no one said Rookies should start... However there were times when we know Rookies or young guys have outperformed the old slow vet.... case in point Kiwi last year...

Guys who don't play a lot of offensive or defensive snaps, rooks and vets alike, DO play special teams most of the time. After all, they have to earn a paycheck somehow. Where we fans tend to get mislead is when a guy makes a few big plays and we envision him playing every snap and being Superman......but we forget that coaches see them every day, study the tapes every night and put players in position to succeed by doing what they do best - and keeping them out of positions where weaknesses can be exposed, at least until those areas are worked on and improved. Perfect example of this is Damontre Moore. We saw him blow through the line and block punts, his nickname is "Da Monster" and pegged him as a combo of JPP and LT! Everyone wanted him on the field more, getting defensive snaps......until he did get those snaps, either in garbage time or out of necessity, due to injury and we saw his weaknesses as a DE. That's when you remind yourself that the coaches really do pay attention and usually know a little more than us fans as to who should be on the field in what situations. GA4M
Bad thing for NY is Tom and Eli are out of time. which means even with all the player issues we have, we'll be facing that shortly and may spend many years trying to get back on top of things, even if that happens. In a way, I just want both of them gone because they are just holding things up.

Don't get me wrong, I trust the coaches more than many do. I just question how good of a look the coaches can get in practice with all the limitations they're faced with. And because of that, real game situations almost become the better evaluation point. So, I think rookies deserve that chance at some point...again, special teams and garbage time are prime opportunities to get the rookies some snaps. I'm not looking to throw every rookie to the fire...but I desperately would want to avoid seeing a rookie get buried on the depth chart lacking the true shot to show the team what he can do in a game. Fair enough. I think that's where the joint practices with the Bengals will be helpful this year. It will afford the coaches more flexibility than preseason games do to manipulate and manufacture situations to test players in different matchups. Sephiroth
I'm set for another long ugly year if it goes that way. but you never know, other teams have their issues too! Get ready for another long, ugly year. A softer schedule will help as will Spags, but Palmieri is still the strength and conditioning coach and there's really nobody aside from JPP from the 2008-2012 drafts to provide quality play. The Giants need about a dozen things to go right to crack .500 this year.

Yeah, I'm thinking we'll win maybe 8 games if people can just stay on the field. but this time of the year I'm just wanting some NFL to watch......I don't really watch any other sport so it's a long run for me.
