Glavine to take on Lidle

New York Mets (21-11) at Philadelphia (18-14), 7:05 p.m. ET

Not only has Tom Glavine never pitched in Citizens Bank Park, he hasn't won a game in Philadelphia since April 2002. He has lost four straight starts in that city. But here is the hard-to-fathom stat of Glavine's appearances against the Phillies: He hasn't beaten them since leaving the Braves.

He has made nine starts against them, six at Shea, and lost six times. His ERA is a very un-Glavine 5.60 in those nine games and explained most readily by this: 25 walks in in merely 55 2/3 innings.

So, given the about-face he has made since the All-Star break last season, how will he fare against a team that's hot and abusing its opponents? The Phillies have won nine straight and averaged 6.5 runs per game in their streak.

This is a different Glavine. The Phillies did beat him Sept. 1. He allowed two runs in the first inning and a home run by Ryan Howard in the sixth. The Mets lost, 3-1. But these are different Mets, too.

Pitching matchup

NYM: LHP Tom Glavine (4-2, 1.94 ERA)

Left-handed hitters are batting .111 against him this season.

PHI: RHP Cory Lidle (2-3, 4.17 ERA)

He has a 4-1 record with a 2.15 career ERA against the Mets.

Player to watch

Jimmy Rollins has a .370 average and two home runs in 46 career at-bats against Glavine.

Pelfrey will get a start by next week. Would not be surprised if he starts the Saturday game at Shea against the Skanks. Its a win/win situation, he wins its "hey 22 year old Pelfrey beats the Yanks" if he loses its "well hey he is 22 years old and that was the Yankees".

So many positives so far but I have only two problems

1. Floyd is still struggling

2. Does Reyes ever take a pitch let a lone take a ball?

1)hitting the ball hard though and a nice base hit RBI tonight

2)No and NO :TD:

Reyes so far this season - 14 walks, .331 OBP

March-April-May 2005 season - 8 walks .305 OBP

He's gettin' better. Willie is getting him to take some pitches. (Maybe not when you are watching ;) )
