NY Giants rookie WR Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly the victim of a fake online persona

Odell Beckham Jr. is the victim of a 'fake online persona' according to new report.

Odell Beckham Jr. was telling the truth all along.

A week ago, the Giants receiver battled claims from Erica Mendez, a woman who said she was his fiancee, and claimed that he cheated on her repeatedly. He insisted that the entire story is fabricated and I have never met this person who is making these claims.

Thats because she doesnt exist. According to TheBigLead.com, Mendez, who first claimed to be Beckhams fiancée last week in a story on RadarOnline.com, never even existed. TheBigLead confirmed that Mendez is a fake online persona.

Its a persona thats existed for several months, and those behind it seemed empowered shortly before the NFL draft. Thats when Beckham appeared on NBCs Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and Fallon, in a quick skit he did with several soon-to-be NFL rookies, said that Beckham was engaged to a model. Beckham smiled during the skit, but the public mention may have empowered those who perpetrated the hoax, and, just weeks later, there was the explosive RadarOnline interview.

In the wake of last weeks events, Beckham had turned everything over to NFL security to explore the situation. According to sources, both the Giants and Beckham also expressed their dissatisfaction to Fallons people over the public mention. The Giants have completely believed Beckhams word throughout the process.

But all along, Mendez did not exist, in a story reminiscent of Manti Teos catfishing saga (except that this time the athlete knew better, even as nobody else seemed to believe him). The online photos that have appeared as Mendez are, according to TheBigLead, photos of two different cousins who live in California.

A series of photos appear on Mendezs website, www.iamericamendez.com (which conveniently lists no phone numbers but only emails), but they are not of her. One photo was taken by a photographer named Milon Carter, who told TheBigLead that the woman pictured is Dior Patterson and that the website was using the photos without permission.

Meanwhile, another picture that was used on the website and the shot that appeared in the Daily News last week is of Pattersons cousin Jade Morning, 19, who lives in Los Angeles, Patterson told TheBigLead. Morning told TheBigLead that she saw the photos of her when the Beckham story broke last week, and shes since been taking efforts to address the issue, going as far as to send an email to Nev Schulman, host of MTVs Catfish.

The Mendez hoax has been going on for several months. Mendez was first linked to Beckham, according to TheBigLead, on a website called BallerAlert in February, a story that was eventually picked up by other sites. According to sources, Beckham never pursued any legal action because he believed the situation would simply diffuse.
