JMFP
I was watching this game, and was struck by how many times both of these QBs threw to receivers that were blanketed. Particularly Rivers. The passes were on the money, but the receivers were not "open" in the normal sense of the word. Instead, they battled for the ball, often leaping at just the right time to snatch and wrestle down the ball at it's highest point. Just an observation. JackStroud
yeah........well those 2, Peyton, and Brees can drill the goal post 9 out of 10 from the 50 yd line think sniper type accuracy
BlueInCanada
I think it's trust as well, Brady and Rivers trusting the WRs to make a play on the ball when needed.

JackStroud
I agree Eli needs to start slinging it and forget about the INTs last year..........its gotten in his head

Eli doesn't throw the ball with authority like they do... when Eli puts a zip on that ball it's hits its target and it's almost always caught. Not really about how Eli is throwing the ball. Brady and Rivers trust their WRs to make a play. Brady knew when he had Moss he could throw a hail mary pass in his direction and it could probably be caught. Brady knows he has guys like Welker and Brach who are quick and sure handed so he can throw the ball at them in press coverage and more then likely they will out position or fight for the ball. Favre by all accounts had one of the strongest arms in the NFL when he played and look at that INT record to go with his legacy. I think trusting your WRs and knowing what they can do is what Brady and Rivers have. Not saying that arm strength isnt important though.
Gman329
I think they count on their receivers being able to at least keep the DB from making an Int, even if the pass is not complete. Sometimes the receiver has to turn into the defender.
Allstarjim
Nas' point is that Eli often doesn't step into his throws. When he's just throwing with his arm, he just doesn't get zip on the ball... as no QB would throwing with arm strength only. When he's stepping into it, he gets his body into the throw, and he's much more accurate and the pass is almost always on the money. There are times that Eli panics a little and doesn't set his feet, and doesn't step into the throw, because he's trying to avoid a big hit. It's a valid point. Part of it seems to be the offense, too. Eli isn't exactly trusting his receivers to make the same read as him, and I think it's caused him to be a little gunshy at times. JackStroud
does this mistrust of his receivers cause Eli to throw the ball 10 ft over his receivers heads, or at their feet. or directly to his opponents who are wearing stealth uniforms........ this is poppycock, revisionist history.......... Eli needs to get one of those tires, hang it from a tree, have some one swing it, get a barrel of balls and see if he can put the ball through the tire at 25 yds or he needs to go out there with an attitude and cockiness like his brother has and grow a thick skin

Fortunately for them, their receivers jumped up and hauled the catches in. Nicks is the type of receiver that Eli can do that with....Hixon is not. Manningham has shown alot of promise. JackStroud
I get it Eli and Coughlin can do no wrong are perfect and the rest of us are flawed Could it be slightly possible Coughlin is older than dirt and Eli has nerves of glass some days?
