Guest So.Cal Dub
Bright lights, big city? Apr 17 - The A’s have almost no hope or expectation of signing Barry Zito long-term, so they are investigating trade possibilities, Newsday reports. Oakland would like to receive three younger, less costly players for the star lefty.”It would be malpractice not to do research,” Oakland GM Billy Beane told the newspaper. “Of course, it would also be malpractice to make a foolish trade.” Beane, however, isn’t overly optimistic about his chances for a Zito trade and indicated there’s more chance they’ll just let Zito leave via free agency at year’s end. “I’m not sure there’s a right deal out there,” said Beane. “It’s going to be difficult to find the right match.” If Zito makes it to free agency, a friend of Zito’s said he believes the Mets and Yankees are co-favorites to sign him. God, I dont know about that. He has "Wash-up" written all over him.

Guest So.Cal Dub
Like Beane would ever make a fair-trade with the Yankees? They can take ARod for Zito and a couple prospects. That would satisfy me.

No that would be stupid arod may not be a full blown 100% yankee yet but he is the best player in the MLB he went from being a gold glove winner at SS to 3B and is now considered gold glove there!if we trade him well have the curse of the A-ROD and will not win a world series for what is it 86 years? There were many many Yankee fans who sat through those 5 agonizing games and prayed to god and said "dear lord just make us win this one so the Met fans cannot break our balls and I will never ask for another again". The good Lord took all those prayers into account and has remembered those wishes ever since, begining in 2001 game 7 of the WS and even having to finnally let the SOX win one just to satisfy those Yankee prayers. DO not worry though, its 5 years down and only another 81 to go.

Currency
It's time to let go of old, selfish players like Gary Sheffield and bring in some pitching. This team built their dynasty with Elite pitching, not Elite hitting.
Ditto
True, but why go for a pitcher you normally beat up on? And, whenever you trade with Beanie, you come up a loser.
gateb
I used to think that this would be a great move seeing that Rick Peterson could fix him up for us but seeing how he's faired with the Zambrano project... I'm not as optimistic. If we trade for him, it's more of an emergency trade then anything else at this rate. I like Zito a lot but we need pitching ASAP. Blue Jeans
I would give Zamby, Victor Diaz, Jeffy Keppinger, and another pitching prospect. What would the Yankees give for him if they traded for him?

Yeah because the As would really take Zambrano Billy Beane's going to be tough to get players out of like always.

Guest So.Cal Dub
Heres the latest from today.... Focus on the present Apr 19 - According to the Contra Costa Times, Barry Zito doesn't mind hearing his name pop up in trade talks. "It doesn't bother me," Zito told the newspaper. "It's a moot point unless something happens." Newsday reported that A's GM Billy Beane was "investigating" possibilities for a deal, though he said he didn't believe there was a right fit. Zito hasn't thought about which team might sign him if the A's let him walk after his option season. Both New York teams likely will be the top bidders. "It's so far away," he said. "It takes your thoughts off what's going on here."

You never know, maybe Beane will give the Mets a break since he had spectauclar years with them as a player.
MakeMeSomeFoodHo
Barry Zito is over rated and I wouldnt trade for him if I were the Yankees, but whoever does trade for him will surely be raped. Look at what Beane got from St. Louis for an even more over rated pitcher than Zito. Kiki Calero, Dan Haren and another good catching prospect for Mark Mulder. Rape at its finest
