Giants WR Situation

With Toomer and Plax gone what where is there

veteran leadership at WR? If you dont keep Tyree

than it would be Steve Smith.

I'm sorry but Tyree is very much needed this particular year.

There are way too many young guys at WR not to keep him.

Tyree is a probowl ST player.

He makes plays when he plays.

He is able to give the young WR's some stability in a lockeroom

thats gonna need him.

He is a proven NFL football player and to replace an unproven talent

over a proven talent is just crazy.

No! Tyree stays !!

The great and powerful OZ has spoken!!

i agree with keeping tyree

ya never know what can happen though.

over the years (and I dont want to date myself) I have seen

some werd decisions made by the Giant front office.

With jerry reese i think we see stable decisions. I hope so anyway! :)

Unless he gets into trouble off the field, there's absolutely 0% chance Manningham gets cut. He's the most natually talented receiver on our roster, and I'm not sure there's a close second.

Not to say Tyree isn't valuable, but our front office's ability to populate the bottom third of the roster with competitive, versatile athletes makes him somewhat expendable. In 2005, we really needed a dynamite ST presence like Tyree. Today, we have guys like Hixon, T2, Dockery, MJ, DeOssie, Goff, Kehl, etc. to step up on coverage units, which really loosens the stranglehold Tyree previously had on a roster spot.

Thats where the "we will see" part comes in.

His ST talent as you mention isnt as big a deal now.

I do think his leadership role might keep him around

but you gotta believe that the object here is to formulate

a great receiving core for Eli and noone is locked in at the

bottom 3rd.

Its hard to get rid of the guy who made "the catch"

Being a leader -- assuming he's perceived as such -- only goes so far when there are six or seven better players at your position. If the young guys outplay him, no amount of leadership or intangibles will save his roster spot.

With the loss of the 2 starters it makes it even more pronounced.

Young guys beating out vets are a good thing something

you dont see too often on the Giants.

My money (no pun there) is on Tyree though.

Again we shall see. It will be an exciting camp.

Being around for awhile doesn't make him experienced or accomplished. He has 54 career catches; Steve Smith surpassed that total last season alone, while Domenik Hixon put up 43 catches in basically half a season. He's never been a good receiver, so it's hard to see what pearls of wisdom he could possibly pass along to younger players, many of whom are already better than him.

Given his limited opportunities he has done well for himself

and put himself in Giant history with one play.

He has also made some great special team play as well.

I do understand your thought process here and if

other players out play him in camp than its over.

He has not had the kind of opportunities that he will

have going foward. Losing 2 starters gives every

receiver a huge opportunity to make this team.

I think if its a close call between him and another player

than he should still be a NYG! If another player clear

beats him out than we carry on without him.

Do I have loyality to a player that made a phenomenal catch

in the closing minutes of a S-Bowl win? Yes I do.

I hope he beats out his competition.

I think we all share a sense of loyalty to him; however, several important contributors to the Super Bowl team have moved on. It's just the nature of sport. He'll always have that SB catch, but the truth is that there are probably six receivers on the team that are more talented than him. In the past, he's proven to do well in a reserve capacity...he's also proven that he cannot be anything more than that. Maybe we keep 7 WRs, but I think Tyree is really on the outside looking in.
