I Would Give Up Kiwi For Edwards

No rookie receiver is going to help us this year. Even Crabtree is going to require a learning period. We need a quality, experienced receiver if we are to go deep into the post season. Edwards is only 26 and entering his 3rd year - a perfect blend of youth and experience.

 

I would NOT give draft picks AND Kiwi but I would do either/or. Yes, I know Kiwi is still young and we've moved him all over the place, had him lose weight, gain weight, etc. Yes, he's a versatile, quality defensive player....but I'm still not sold that he's a great pass rusher. I got very tired of watching him try the outside speed rush time after time on 3rd & long and seeing the OT push him wide, out of the play, time after time. He's got to develop another move!

 

That is not to say he doesn't have value - clearly, he does. But you have to give quality to get quality and we are well stocked enough on the DL to absorb his loss. On the other hand, not adding a quality receiver will allow teams to stack the box, like they did against us down the stretch last year, limit our running game and make our offense look rather ordinary.

 

Kiwi for Edwards is a trade I would make.

I personally, would NOT give up Kiwi. if we had an LB go down on our already thin LB corps, Kiwi could step right in.

It sounds like the going rate for Boldin will be a 1st & 3rd, so Edwards has to be worth less. 1st and a 5th? 2nd and a 3rd? I'd do either, maybe a little more.

Well Kiwanuka has proven it to me and I would not give him up for Edwards in this trade. I just hope the Giants stick to their draft board and Heyward-Bey isn't on it.

You are correct - 5th year. My mistake. But his rookie year, he played in 10 games, only 7 starts...and still averaged over 15 yards per catch. The next year, he caught 61 balls for 884 yards - an impressive 2nd season. Then his 3rd year was the breakout - 80, 1289 and 16 TDs! Yes, he slipped last year to 55, 873 and only 3 TDs but I attribute that at least in part to the turmoil & QB problems in Cleveland.

 

When I see a guy still only 26, with those kind of numbers under his belt, I have to believe this is a classic "change of scenery" needed. The guy didn't improve every year, only to suddenly forget how to play the game.

Absolutely agree! But I think that's the Browns posturing. They can't really believe that's possible and they sure as hell don't have other offers approaching that.

Dont get me wrong, I'd love to have Braylon, think he'd do fine. But dont screw with our D. Leave that thing in tact and beefed up. We have no idea what Manningham can do.

Again, that's posturing by an agent. And those 3rd year numbers are certainly #1 receiver territory! Also, with the CBA situation, he might not have that much leverage.

 

Even with the "bad" years figured in, the guy has averaged about 16 yards per catch though his career! That's exactly the outside threat we need to keep the running game humming. Without that, the running game bogs down, as we saw down the stretch last year.

I think when you look at what he has done on the football field, it's apparent that he's a number one. Take away all the numbers and what the EYES tell you is the dude is one of the most dangerous receivers in football.

 

Last year was down but it was the perfect storm for low numbers. Bad football team, not a very good run game to keep defenses honest, bad QB play including a QB making his first starts in the NFL, and finally, most of the time he was the only real threat on the football field for the Browns, so I'm confident that he received A TON of defensive attention, more than his fair share of doubles. When you add that all up, no player can really put up good numbers, no matter how good he is.

 

Edwards on our team would be tremendous, and I guarantee that Week 1 he'd be getting a lot of respect from opposing defenses.

The drops and how is he going to hold up in the NY spotlight are major concerns for me. Anquan played on a horrible team for years and still managed to catch the ball. It took Burress two years with Manning to mature into the kind of threat we're expecting with Edwards.

Yes, it's been said before by me and Gorilla as well. Kiwi and a 3 , we would do.

 

It's not a question of comparing Kiwi to Edwards- it's a question of need. We need a star WR

 

much more than we need a hybrid DE/OLB.
