gateb Posted March 19, 2006 Share Posted March 19, 2006 TAMPA, United States (AFP) - New York Yankees southpaw pitcher Al Leiter, a veteran of 20 Major League Baseball seasons, announced his retirement after a 2-0 exhibition victory over Cleveland. Leiter, 40, was a member of two World Series champions who posted a career record of 162-132 with a 3.80 earned-run average in 419 appearances, 382 starts, with the Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins and New York Mets. Leiter, who retired one batter in his farewell appearance, was obtained in a mid-season 2005 deal with Florida. Ditto Posted March 20, 2006 Share Posted March 20, 2006 I hated to see him go. He wasn't great, but he gave us a chance to win the games he was in.
