GorillaNJ
February 08, 2008 Anyone out at Tuesday's parade for the Giants could tell you that spirits were every bit as high as previous celebrations along the Canyon of Heroes, but it was hardly the shower of paper we've seen in the past. The Sanitation Department tells the New York Times it collected 36 tons of paper following the team's victory parade. That's compared to nearly 47 tons during the city's last parade for the Yankees in 2000, and merely a drop in the bucket compared to the 5,400 tons dropped in 1945 to celebrate the Allied victory over Japan. A former sanitation worker known as the "Confetti King" tells the Times modern office buildings with windows that don't open may be partly to blame, as well as the fact that ticker tape itself isn't used any more. Ticker tape machines were used in the late 19th century and into the 20th to transmit stock numbers before tha advent of computers. I thought there was less "ticker tape" then the two other parades that I remember.
Lubeck
It looked like there barely was any.
420
Maybe the city is trying to be more "green"

enjaygee
forgot about that. Plus all paper was recycled afterwards. Yeah, I believe that was Ed Koch's decision not to throw the parade. I was at the celebration in the meadowlands though. I remember it being REALLY COLD that day.
fringe
you'd think someone would invent virtual ticker tape.
TaylorBanksCarsonVanPelt
A lot of people were throwing it out of the windows before it even started. I got to Park Row by 10:00am and there were several windows with idiots throwing out heaps of paper...with not a Giant in sight.
