  1. I usually don't take anything from yahoo with seriousness. but this one's a fun read .. Reese has an eye for talent.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/york-giants-five-most-significant-draft-picks-last-173700277--nfl.html

One of the biggest reasons behind the New York Giants' recent success is the organization's ability to find talent in the NFL draft. Shrewd selections have provided the key pieces for the team's last two Super Bowl championships and the building blocks for the future. With the 2013 NFL draft quickly approaching, here's a look back at Big Blue's five most significant draft picks of the last 10 years.

Jason Pierre-Paul (DE) -- The Giants plucked Pierre-Paul out of South Florida with the 15th overall pick in 2010. In his first three seasons, the destructive defensive end has collected 27.5 sacks and become the lynchpin of the Giants' defense. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Pierre-Paul recently was named one of the top under-25 players in the National Football League by NFL.com.

Hakeem Nicks (WR) -- A first-round selection (No. 29 overall) in 2009, Nicks was plagued by injuries in 2012. However, the former North Carolina Tar Heel has amassed 3,726 yards and 27 touchdowns in his first four seasons in New York. Furthermore, in four playoff games in 2012, Nicks totaled 444 yards and four touchdowns. It's no wonder that the Giants are considering a long-term contract for him.

Ahmad Bradshaw (RB) -- Released earlier this month, Bradshaw made huge contributions to the team over the last six years. The hard-nosed running back ran for 4,232 yards (sixth-most in team history) and 32 touchdowns. Plus, he was a key member of New York's last two championship teams with 480 yards and two touchdowns in nine playoff games. A seventh-round pick out of Marshall in 2007, Bradshaw has to be one of the greatest value picks in team history.

Justin Tuck (DE) -- Tuck was third-round steal in the out of Notre Dame in the 2005 NFL draft. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, he has been an anchor on the team's defensive line with 49.5 sacks and 389 total tackles over the last few years. Furthermore, he was a human wrecking ball in the Giants' last two Super Bowl victories with a pair of sacks in each game. Although he has been limited by injuries the last couple of seasons, Tuck remains a team leader and one of the key pieces on defense.

Philip Rivers (QB) -- Technically, the Giants drafted Rivers with the fourth overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft, but they had no intention of keeping him. New York promptly flipped Rivers to the San Diego Chargers for first pick Eli Manning in arguably the greatest trade in franchise history. Since taking over as Big Blue's starting quarterback during the 2004 season, Manning hasn't missed a single start. And, of course, "Elite Eli" led the team to victory in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI as the MVP of each game.

  2. No one said he'd be a starter... a washed up Freeney is better than a healthy Osi any given Sunday.

whoa... easy there Nas.... I don't know why you hate the guy so much but Osi is way better than Freeney in the current time.

Then again, everytime a FA left the Giants they seem to suck ballz and couldn't live up to their contract.. example: Aaron Ross, David Boss, Derrick Ward, Jacobs....

The only guy that left and maintain SuperStar status is Cofield....... damn skins!!!

  3. Perhaps the widening of the field initiative is a step towards merging NFL and CFL, creating a truly international league?

If anything CFL should follow NFL's rules.. it would be pretty cool to have a few more teams and canada to join in on the league..

  4. Mel Kiper is the worst. How this guy ever got his job is beyond me.

Seriously. It's like a mimic of a drunk with a keyboard. He's the same clown that stated Aaron curry to be a sure pick at the top 3 position and a number of BS scouting report.

  5. I don't think Reese has to beat around the Bush to get rookies like Wilson on the field... as a GM he can at least nudge his coaches to play certain guys.. and when they say he hasn't learned this or that.. he can say "Ok, you got 2 weeks".

. I don't think it works that way. Old Tom is one of those stubborn head headed type of guy. You get fine for coming less than 5 minute early. Think about it. Tom has his way of doing things and no one can challenge him with two rings for credibility. Reese knows this and his only play is to get rid of guys before they expire. It's best for both party. One other teams still see a productive season and hire them. Two giants can start early on future players. Reese isn't a bad guy, he's thinking of the team and no ONE player is above it. And I like the way he's doing it.

  6. That about says it all. I'm really concerned with the offensive line.

The easy answer is to make a play for Jake Long, but Will Beatty is the best player on the offensive line right now, and I think he's only good on the left side. Long would be an upgrade, but would leave just as many holes on the line as there are today. So.... to the bargain bin for us. Hopefully Reese can find a couple more Locklears and maybe another Diehl in the draft.

i was hoping for this.. but Long will be asking for so much that i don't think it's reasonable to accept. Also we're making all these cuts so that we can maintain our two top WR. Let's hope the guys we have on the line can hold up. I seriously hope we can pick up a top notch Linemen, a Guard or anything that can pan out. Petrius was in my eyes the next guy to take over, guess that ain't happening.

  7.

And yet in 7 years he hasnt been able to scout a decent starting LB or any help at the OL.

Yeah only help us win 2 superbowls. Haha.

I agree that he still haven't found us a awesome linemen or a LB. but every year we are drafting from a very low position. Would love a top linemen but they are gone after the top half of the draft.

Any chance we got cash to get jake long??

  8. TT, the problem with your theory is you have 5 OL and 4 DL. Most of the time, it's up to the linebackers to stop the running backs. Look at the Redskins... they are going to run the zone read option. In my example, say JPP has to stay at home and play the QB. He's still going to have an OT and a TE possibly, to double him. Then you have a Center and Guard doubling Linval, the other guard on Canty, and the RT on Tuck, unless it's a 2 TE set, then Tuck might be getting chipped by the other TE as well. So unless somebody beats the double, or Canty is able to beat his guy, you need a LB that can fill that gap and not get run over for 4 yards. And one preferably, that can shed a fullback quickly and still do the job.

You can get a dominant DT and still have this same problem. You can see a lot of what I'm talking about in this video. The DT's are for the most part out of the plays. http://www.nfl.com/v...kins-highlights

We need someone physical with instincts to shoot that gap. Now, Minter isn't the pick at 19. But if he is somehow available at our pick in the second, I'd be all over him, I like him better than Te'o.

wow.. just got schooled.. thanks for the info... yeah lot of what you say do make a bunch of sense.. but if we can get pressure from our DT, they will be force to double team one or both of our DT. that's just a fantasy.

the Lions used to have this type of pressure from Suh, then they took Fairly and thought that line will be insane. but QB just throw quick short passes and totally kill any pressure from their DT..

ok. we need a crazy ass LB..

  9. RB nowadays are fast and powerful. remember the days when a DB can manhandle a RB as long as they can catch up to them.. well now we have guys who are heavy and light on the feet.

As far as stopping the run, i believe that starts with the Front line. a awesome DT that make sure a RB can't go straight and have to dance around, cutting to the side, given our LB time to aim and tackle. I think LB aren't as important a position anymore.

hell i could be wrong. lol

  10. One scouting report states " .... leads to one issue, which is that he may not be immediately ready to play all three downs as he has a long way to go in coverage."

we need a guy that can man the line and cover.... this is why we always have issue's with fast TE in the league...

  11. I think Stahan, Parcells and Sapp all get in this year.

I don't understand the fascination with Bettis, I thought he was a horrible running back in the later part of his career and even when he was in his prime didn't look like much of an HoF back.

Strahan and Sapp are both arguably top 5 at their position to play the game and Parcells is an easy first ballot HoF entry with his amount of work he put into the game.

Agree about Bettis, now i haven't watched all his games nor follow his career as close as some but the dude is avg at best. Sure he won a superbowl ring but did HE lead the Steelers to that victory? My eyes said the Defense won it.

To me Bettis is more like a Brandon JAcobs kinda guy with a little more moves but he's no Barry Sanders or Marshell Fualk, He'll he is more like a Eddger James.

anyways i never understood the hype ..

  12. Yeah i use to hate it when Eli "Omaha" to the last second.. He need to mix it up a little. If you notice, we seem to always get good results on those crazy 4th Qrt comebacks because Eli lead the no huddle and the defense has no rest or sub. KillDrive need to mix that in the game plan.

Also, when it's second and short, i like the fact that we take chances and bomb a long one but it seems our O-Line just doesn't give eli enough time to set and pass...

With two superbowl under KillDrive's belt.... i'm sure we can't get rid of him other than the some clown team hire him as a head coach...
