  1. Check it out on metsblog.com. Two prospects I never even heard of.
  2. Whatever man... its just hard for me to believe everything you say... just out of curiousity, which of the 10 games did you watch Perez pitch in? And why weren't you watchign the Yankees game? Surely, you can't watch perez pitch throughout most of a game if your Yankees are on, right?
  3. Control isn't Perez's strength but to say he has none is dumb. And yes, he can throw sliders anywhere to any given hitter. He can throw that sharp biting slider down and in the dirt to the right handed hitter, or make a beautiful backdoor pitch with late movement that'll catch the corner. His sliders to lefties are just as devastating, and have been an integral part of his .200 average pitching to lefties. Randy Johnson's mechanics aren't exactly the most graceful thing either. Moises Alou has hitting mechanics that would drive any hitting coach crazy but it inexplicably works. Point is, Perez may have a bit abnormal mechanics (i dont even think they are that bad) but some pitchers and hitters do it different ways but still make it work. Wants to get with a pitching coach that'll make him perform correctly? Huh? What beef do you have with Rick Peterson, it's clear that he is one of the most brilliant pitching minds in baseball. Is it that hard to admit? Perez always had the stuff but Rick clearly taught him something that has helped him with his confidence, control, and pitch sequences too. I can't believe I'm wasting my time doing this but here it goes... your comment with Perez averaging 110 pitches per 7 innings was wrong so I'm here to break it down for you. Here's every outing with IP and total pitches that he's had this year. 7 IP 82 pitches 2.2 IP 73 pitches 6.2 IP 98 pitches 7 IP 120 pitches 5.1 IP 98 pitches 4.2 IP 84 pitches 8.1 IP 109 pitches 7.2 IP 108 pitches 7 IP 102 pitches 7 IP 98 pitches 7 IP 103 pitches 5 IP 106 pitches 7.1 IP 111 pitches 5.1 IP 92 pitches 6.1 IP 103 pitches 6 IP 95 pitches 7.1 IP 103 pitches 6 IP 99 pitches Add the pitches together and divide them by IP, then multiply by 7 you get roughly 103 pitches per 7 innings. So that point is moot too, I'll take those stats. Also, Perez gets stronger in the late innings, his fastball stays up in velocity and his off speed pitches maintain their movement. While John Maine is the ace of our staff, I believe that PErez is the guy I'd want out there to get 7+. I'm not even going to get into the tough luck he's been involved in with fielding and his impressive starts he's had in big games. 5-0 against the Braves and Yankees, needless to say that is very good. Regarding John Maine, maybe he was put in to pitch in the late months of seasons because the Orioles were done and wanted to test out some new arms that they weren't really sure about. I don't completely doubt that at one point Maine was a highly touted guy, but I'd never heard that he was supposed to be good, hence the reason he was a throw-in. Here's something I found when googling his scouting report: Sounds like he was projected to be a 14-10 record pitcher with a high 3s low 4s ERA for his career. Zito got worse every year steadily after Rick P left him. While Rick P didn't have everything to do with his success, it certainly hurt Zito to not work with him.
  4. also the same rick peterson that made barry zito a cy young winner in the AL. how's zito doing now?
  5. You've only watched two games Perez has pitched this year and he owned in both games. When your lineup was just as hot as it was last weekend, Perez shut you guys down at Yankees stadium. No, that's not lucky. How can someone who possesses a 95 MPH fastball with electric movement and sliders that can be pitched anywhere in the strike zone with great movement be lucky? You are right about one thing, and you did it by accident. You said his record doesn't indicate how he's been pitching this year, which is 100% true. A guy with a 2.84 ERA should be better then 9-7. And you know damn well that Maine was not highly touted at all. Good job on making a fool of yourself.
  6. gotta give the sox some credit, they knew what they were doing when they decided not to give Pedro and Damon the extra year and moolah. unfortunately, those smart decisions are somewhat outweighed by signing Drew to a ridiculous contract and so forth....
  7. You're a fucking idiot. Every post in this thread that you have made is full of stupidity. I almost was going to feel bad for you that you were setting yourself up for dissappointment the way you were, but no sympathy anymore. Maybe, just maybe if the Yanks acquire Gagne, then they can make a run for the division. Face it, you'll have those big wins that'll involve double-digit run totals but will never have the consistency to overtake the division. Look at the bullpen. Who do you trust in that pen right now not named Mariano Rivera? The Sox are loaded with pitching, and have hitters that know how to hit. Lowell, Youkilis, Ortiz, and Manny have turned it up of late. The lineup isn't exactly impressive, but they get the job done. Shit like Overreyes and calling out oliver perez is exactly what makes you a mockery to the insightful yanks fans on the board...
  8. ive just logged in there for my first time in 3 and a half months... that place is awful. welcome back.
  9. you can tell that the pirates just arent a good ballclub by their terrible fundamentals. no speed in OF, not many set players. they got some guys who can play too, they arent a complete waste. nady is good, bay is good, and they got some nice starters.
  10. lol did you guys hear keith call snell "schnell" tonight by accident? it was in the first.
  11. when was the last time we tied a game in the 9th and won it in extras?
  12. gateb

    Wow

if beltran doesnt get going, im not opposed to putting lo duca #2 alou #3 and beltran 6th. alou would obviously prove he can still hit after his injury but if he does for a week and beltran continues to struggle, i would like the way that lineup would look
  13. gateb

    Wow

i never like games like this for the mets but this is the one exception... i needed to see that we could hit and that means by all ways possible. it's just too bad glavine made the start, not some guy like dave williams.
  14. It all comes down to pitching. If your guys hold up, you have nothing to worry about.
  15. im down. one night this summer i could just take the train by myself. its pretty easy.
  16. I'm not sure where he fits in the lineup. #2 maybe?
  17. Giles only makes that catch against the Mets. Damn.
  18. My bad, I meant lefties. And golfingkid, do you know if there are any adequate 2b available in this upcoming FA? I think Durham is one and Castillo is too. I'd like Castillo as a met.
  19. Why would willie play him against a righty? Isn't that easley's game? He has no role on this team. Gotay the everyday guy, Easley the one against the righty.
  20. That AB he had last night was awful! He hit the ball for the sake of grounding out weakly rather then striking out. Against David Wells no less. If Alou ever comes back, I wouldn't mind him being in the 3 spot.
  21. That would basically mean keep Valentin benched forever. Gotay is the man :worshippy: btw, i think someone said in spring training that he liked his swing and got responses saying that gotay sucks. ill try to dig that one up edit: here it is
  22. i was there tonight and yes, kai is smokin. kiner wouldve fit well in our lineup tonight
  23. I'm for Gotay becoming a regular starting 2b. I remember saying in spring training how much I liked his swing and that he looks like he could be good with some seasoning, looks like he's proving me right. Great at bat after great at bat, good #2 hitter, ability to go to all fields, good speed, and is just a ball player.
