  1. http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2014/12/02/tuna-talk-parcells-was-baalkes-first-choice-in-2011/ As it turns out, Jim Harbaugh was Trent Baalke’s second choice to be the 49ers head coach in 2011. His first choice: Bill Parcells. Baalke was hired as the 49ers general manager on Jan. 4, 2011, and given the authority by CEO Jed York to hire the head coach. At some point before the 49ers hired Harbaugh on Jan. 7, Baalke approached Parcells about the opening. That revelation is part of Parcells’ recently released authorized biography, “Parcells: A Football Life,” written by Nunyo Demasio. At the time, Parcells was 69 and four years removed from his last head-coaching job with the Cowboys. Baalke began his career as a scout with the Jets in 1998 when Parcells was the head coach. Baalke has termed Parcells one of the biggest influences on his career and he still consults with him on personnel matters. From the book: “After Baalke secured the job, he quietly tried to lure his first choice for head coach: Bill Parcells. York and Baalke emphasized that although the club had missed the playoffs for eight straight seasons, it contained a talented roster. The 49ers saw Parcells, even at sixty-nine and having been away from the sideline since the 2006 season, as someone who would lead the franchise to the playoffs for at least a couple seasons while sharing Baalke’s vision. But citing his age and the team’s distance from his home base (Jupiter, Fla.), Parcells put an end to any serious discussions. The 49ers turned their attention to the Stanford head coach on so many wish lists.” Nearly four years later, Harbaugh could, again, be a on a series of wish lists if the 49ers don’t retain him after the season. If so, Baalke’s first choice likely won’t be Parcells, whose age (73) and Florida locale presumably remain deal-breakers. Parcells, who was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013, did receive interest in 2012 to lead a team on a temporary basis, but he declined the offer. Saints coach Sean Payton asked Parcells if he would fill the team’s vacancy before Payton served a one-season suspension. Twitter: @Eric_Branch
  2. Well you couldn't have a giants reunited n without a illegal procedure by pettigout!
  3. As interesting as a Giants Bears game in the 70's where each team was trying to lose in order to gain 1st draft pick (Gayle Sayers). Giants won, of course 6-3 in OT. Csonka ran for 100 yards for the only time in a Giants uni. I'll pass on tomorrow's game, thank you.
  4. What worries me is his inability to get anything going for the final drive. He used to own that time.
  5. Do you foresee a Super Bowl run in the next 2 years? If you do you are looking through blue colored glasses. So that will be 5 years at least. Then you throw up your hands and say "ok, let's blow this up" Hello 2025.
  6. His weakness is in pass coverage. He's fairly slow. The 49ers system accents his strengths.
  7. i think the new wave has a very strong secondary. Seattle, AZ, Indy, etc.
  8. The part about building the D from back to front makes a lot of sense. Especially safeties.
  9. I freely admit stealing from sources I respect.
  10. We need someone smart big and fast who hits hard and doesn't get injured. Don't really care what position they play as long as they have an S on their chest.
  11. I was thinking Carolina for Eli. They're tired of Superman down there.
  12. No one listens to their coach anymore. Lynch doesn't go to the locker room at halftime. Brooks pulls himself out of the game. Its the beginning of the end.
  13. Through all the years as a Giants fan, through some pretty bad teams, there was one constant. They were always tough. And they always applied punishment. Most of the time , it would come back to bite them. Knocking out Theismann to have Jay Scrhraeder beat them. Knocking out Aikman on TG day to have Fresno State's own Kevin Sweeney throw 3 TD's. Nevertheless, there was always toughness and fight. Maybe it's the penalties. But I think it goes deeper than that. It's time to find a HC that will bring the fight back. That will secretly slap a guy's butt when he gets a roughing the passer penalty in the 1st Q. (routinely done by LT and crew).
  14. hit and rawn? those crazy western NYers. ;p
  15. That could be that either the other guys are not creating space or Eli is under siege most every snap. It was that way yesterday when Giants lost Pugh. But no one here ever thought Randle was good.
  16. He's an enigma. I think when he's having a temper tantrum with the refs, he's subliminally calling in the draw play.
  17. Worse than that, I think he takes who he's given.
  18. you went to coach cliche school, didn't you?
