I think our offense can be up to "respectable" in short order if Shoen makes a few easy steps.
1. Drop as many bloated contracts as you can, and trade Saquon. I think by my last calculation you can free up to 40 million if we trade Saquon and Bradberry/Rudoph and Martinez.
2. Pick up two free agent O-linemen. There is a glut of guards available; Sherff is going to be the big-ticket guy, but Laken Tomlinson and Mark Glowinski are guys that should be within our price range. If we wanna go on the lower (but still quality) end, Andrew Norwell and Trai Turner both played above-average this year, don't seem to be garnering much interest, and can help immediately. If his back checks out, I love RT Tyrell Crosby as a backup.
3. IF we can't trade down, use two picks on linemen. Ikem Ekwonu and Tyler Linderbaum would be my two picks. If we decide to go for a pass-rusher in the first (I love George Karlaftis), then Ed Ingram would be a day-one starter in the second that can play all three positions on the inside.
4. Draft Breece Hall in the second. He's going to be the next Shaun Alexander.
So potentially we could have a line that's Thomas-Bredeson-Linderbaum-Tomlinson-Ekwonu, with Crosby as a backup/pusher for starting time, with Breece Hall running behind them. If we got anything out of Gates or Peart in backup roles, it would just be gravy (I think we have to stick with Bredeson for now, though I'd like to upgrade in the future).
