  1. Honestly, I'm not impressed with either of those hires. Coughlin will always be the man here but who knows what a vice president of football operations even does? Knowing Coughlin, he'll hold on to mediocre assistants for far longer than they deserve. Marrone is a non-starter. I can't name one remarkable accomplishment off the top of my head, just things like, "well he took a shitty team and did some kind of, sort of not-shitty things with them." I guess we'll see. I always liked Jacksonville but this doesn't set my world on fire.
  2. Isn't there some kind of law that every receiver named Mike Williams has to suck?
  3. Yeah I thought that was for this year but I guess it's for next. Good deal. Another thing... we need to start thinking about drafting Eli's replacement. I wouldn't mind if we spent a high pick on a QB so that we can have a smooth transition once Eli decides to hang it up in the next few years. I don't want a situation where he retires and the team is like, "well, what do we do now?"
  4. Yeah I had meant to put that in the "next year" thread. Eli's time is limited and we might want to think about drafting his replacement soon. I don't think you start another guy over Eli but I'd love to see a Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers transition as opposed to a Dan Marino and... uh.. whoever replaces Marino one.
  5. I think that's a good assessment. I hope we get Johnson back; I have no idea why we didn't sign another fullback. As far as JPP goes, he really is a game changer, but I think he's only had one healthy season out of six. I'm not sure what kind of contract you offer for someone like that, or what he would think is fair.
  6. What do you think our top priorities should be for next season? I think by just about any metric, this year was a success. 11 wins is awesome, and we beat some pretty good competition (Cowboys, Lions, Skins) but lost to some others (Pittsburgh, Pack). We have an awesome young core on this team to build around finally (Snacks, Vernon, Collins, Apple, Jenkins... keeping DRC should be a priority, don't cut him... Perkins, OBJ, and Shepard). Those guys should keep us competitive for the next 2-3 years at a minimum as they're all locked up for a while. Some general observations and the direction I'd like this team to go in: 1. I know I say this every year but please... pretty please... with fucking sugar on top, get us a MAULING, ROAD-GRADING GUARD. Not a finesse player. I want a Chris Snee type that will actually push a DT back three yards on every snap. These guys are cheap and undervalued, but this team has needed one since Snee started declining five years ago. While we're at it, lets get a RT, or a LT and let Flowers switch to the right side. 2. I'd also like to see an actual FB on the team, and at least one blocking TE. I think Adams is a nice player, but Will Tye and Larry Donnell should both be relegated to the third string. 3. We need one more back. There's no other way to dance around this... Jennings is terrible. Perkins and someone else would be pretty sweet. 4. If you couldn't tell... I think we need to switch to a power running offense for Eli's swan song. Happens to many of the great ones... Elway, Peyton, etc. We can't expect a 37 year old to chuck the ball 45 times a game for sixteen weeks in a row. I think you really saw at the end of the season that his arm didn't have the strength on the deep ball (that King TD was a actually short; it was a good thing he beat his man by so much). 5. I'd love to keep JPP, but honestly, he's still an enigma to me. I could go either way on him. I think we should make a good, reasonable offer to Pugh... he's not great at anything, but he's good at everything and we need versatile guys on the line. I wouldn't break the bank for him but I think he's part of the solution, not the problem. I'd like to keep Hankins if possible. The rest of the guys are JAGs except maybe Keenan Robinson, but again, he's not a guy I'd break the bank for. I think a case could be made for a John Jerry or a Marshall Newhouse as a backup but those guys shouldn't be starters. The great news is, most of those positions are pretty cheap. I think you can cover G, RT, FB, and TE and not spend over 50 million. We have a lot to look forward to as Giants fans over the next few seasons.
  7. This. And a fullback. We essentially have no "big" personnel. That's a huge problem on this team.
  8. I feel as many of you do. Disappointed with the loss, but it wasn't unexpected, and we have a bright, bright future ahead. Can't wait to see what this team does next year. Another back, an actual run-blocking Guard and/or RT, a Fullback, and maybe an NFL-caliber MLB are not high-priced additions and should improve this team greatly. I thought we'd win six games, I am VERY excited at how wrong I was. The arrow is pointing up.

  10. I feel the same way. The one caveat is that I think we may finally have Beatty, Jones, Newhouse, and Hart all healthy. If they wanted to put, say, Beatty and Newhouse in a jumbo TE package I think it might be a new wrinkle that the league hasn't seen to this point and probably isn't prepared for. Perkins is a good back; he could probably do well behind a power 2TE set.
  11. Maybe we can hire him when Spags gets a HC job!
  12. The Packers had a terrible secondary the first time and OBJ/Eli were pretty pedestrian. On the other hand, Green Bay was coming off a 14-day rest and the Giants were coming off a short week, so it should be interesting to see how the game goes this time.
  13. LOL. Dude has the most understated sense of humor ever.
  14. At this point, I think the offense is what it is. We need to score 17 points and have the D turn in a colossal effort.
  15. Eli sure sounded pissed. " "I think as a team, we always pride ourselves in being well prepared. So when I saw some of those pictures, I was a little disappointed just because they obviously didn't pack accordingly," Manning said."
  16. Some really smart guy called it on this thread.
  17. This offense is flat-out horrible, but the defense is flat-out great... but not so great they can carry the whole team. They're not the 01 Baltimore Ravens defense, which you would need to be to have a chance against Green Bay at home. Rodgers will make them make just enough mistakes to lose the game. I'm seeing something along the lines of 24-17, with the final TD coming in garbage time from the Giants.
  18. Finally won a championship! This fucking league went right until the end of the season... I had to scrap Le'Veon Bell for Williams, and half of my team was out or on IR. But I have at least one trophy! My trick: I named my team "Blood and Thunder" after the Mastodon song. Everybody else named their team "Team Smith" or whatever their last name was. Losers!
  19. I feel the same way. I'd also take Odell Beckham on any team in a heartbeat. He is a Hall of Fame level talent, and while his antics get tiresome, it's not like he's a Randy Moss style criminal or a me first douchbag like Terrell Owens.
  20. Eli also has something like 6 picks and one TD against them in the past two contests.
  21. Kind of makes the people who asked for a Josh Sitton signing look like they might have had a clue. I think McAdoo/Eli is actually doing a decent job of covering up how terrible this line really is.
  22. Paul Perkins needs to be the starter. He has more burst, more elusiveness, and blocks almost as well as any back on the roster. Jennings can come in to spell him when we need to lose two yards.
  23. Watch his face end up on everything this year. This is what America has become.
