  1. But he lets them walk only after their contracts are up. He's unwilling to cut them while under contract, and replace with better FAs
  2. That's the point. Seems at times he's unwilling to sign better FAs for not wanting to let go of and cut dud draft picks like Kuhn or Jackson. For instance, for safety my hunch is he's not signing a FA for fear he may later have to cut Jackson, Thompson, Taylor, etc
  3. I'm talking before their 3-4 yr rookie contracts are up; he's generally not willing to let go of obvious failures (eg Markus Kuhn, Bennett Jackson, Mosley). It's bad enough that they're failures to begin with, but if it's dead weight he needs to cut it, not cling to it.
  4. If we had a capable right side to the OL, plus filled in gaps at Wr and on D, I'd agree.
  5. Plus, what better way to fill the rest of your defensive backfield at safety, including starting safety, than with guys who can't even get onto the football field. Bennett Jackson, Nat Behre, Cooper Taylor, Mykelle Thompson. If there's anything we've learned about Jerry Reese is that he doesn't know when to let go of former picks, even late round picks, even when there is an apparent need at the position. Our safety situation is a perfect example. I get it, we want to give these guys a chance, but hell, at the end of the day, we need a damn starter who can at least plug in starting week 1, not a developmental guy starting. I don't understand why Reese isn't signing DBs and OLs to fill in the obvious gaps we have there, let alone depth at DL and WR. He doesn't have to go nuts with big contracts either. To me, even if you draft exactly at these positions, you're still not ready and can't rely on these positions without FA support and depth.
  6. With LBs like Robinson, Kennard, JT Thomas, Casillas, Unga, and Brinkley, we have a typical Jerry Reese mix of oft injured, mediocore LBers who would otherwise be primarily backups on most other teams. Then, like typical Jerry Reese, we'll get decent starting CBs and DLs, but with NO depth behind them, so they'll be worn down over the course of a game and season (e.g. all those 4th quarter meltdowns).
  7. Right, the hope is that somewhere between picks 11-20 (10 teams), you find one team willing to do a trade. For picks 11 - 13, we could pick up a 1st and 4th rounder, and change (5th-6th). For picks 14-20, we could pick up a 1st and 3rd and change. http://walterfootball.com/draftchart.php
  8. Sua Cravens, Kyler Fackrell, Jordan Jenkins, Deion Jones, Kentrel Brothers should be around in the 2nd. Not saying who I'd prefer, but these are the ~2nd round guys. Personally, if Hargreaves (+ Jack, Bosa, Bruckner, Ramsey) aren't around at 10, I say we trade down to the mid-late teens, and pick up the remaining best player available. Floyd, Lee, TE Hunter Henry, LB Reggie Ragland, CB Mackenzie Alexander, DE Shaq Lawson, DE Emanual Ogbah, DT Sheldin Rankins, OL Jack Conklin, OL Cody Whitehair.
  9. Hargreaves is potentially a safe and sure fire pick, plus integral in a league that frequently plays 3-4 wr sets. Meanwhile, he'll likely become better than DRC or Jenkins. We desperately need DB depth and outside Ramsey, Hargreaves, Alexander, this is not a deep draft for DBs (I don't expect Apple or Jackson to be around at pick 40 in the 2nd rd)
  10. I think this is right. I'd be happy with either. I give the slight edge to Floyd because I think, in coverage or rush, he closes so many passing windows with his length.
  11. It depends on how you project the two to have success in the NFL, against NFL OL when rushing the passer. Lee is ~6'1 220, Floyd 6'6 245. Floyd seems more poised to succeed in the role of a pass rusher due to size and length.
  12. I give Floyd a few big legs up on Lee, on versatility against the pass (both rush and cover) and run, can move him around to any LB spot, experience, traits (size/length). Lee also probably needs a year or two before he's really ready. His size will get him knocked around, and even at the college level had many missed/broken tackles.
  13. At this point, assuming guys like Bosa, Bruckner, Jack, and Ramsey are off the board by #10, I think CB Vernon Hargreaves III or LB Leonard Floyd would be great acquisitions. I recently watched some youtube tape of Floyd, and am leaning more towards Floyd. He's very solid against run and pass, can fly all over the field, and can play three downs. He should be able to match-up against opposing TEs/RBs in the passing game (e.g. can be a nickle backer), can rush the passer, close passing windows, and can fill gaps in the run game. Many times, he even lined up at ILB for Georgia. Only knock on him is his lanky frame (6'6 244), but NFL trainers can get him on a program add weight Many people compare him to Dion Jordan (as a knock), but keep in mind the dolphins may have mis- used Jordan trying him as a foot in the ground DE (not a true LB), and asked/made him gain TOO much weight (and doing so on roids). Of course, we would still need to fill in holes elsewhere in the draft or free agency, as I think we have a very think OL, Secondary, and WR corps.
  14. Treadwell had only a 33 inch vertical at the combine, which was bad and shocking, particularly for him and for a guy who's 6'2. He also may have trouble with better corners in this league. He'll be decent in the NFL, but nothing special. Not worth a 10 in my view.
  15. I like trading down for TE Hunter Henry at 15-20, if we can.
  16. In my mock, I have Reese taking two LB's :-), rounds 2 and 4.
  17. Here's mine (I would like the Giants to pick up some FA OL, WR and CB depth and then draft the following): - 1st round - DE Shaq Lawson, Clemson. 6'3 270. While we have Vernon and JPP, I'm confident that this is a much needed pick. JPP is a shell of his former self, plus only signed for one more year. Behind him, we have an unproven O.O., and Kerry Wynn is a backup at best. - 2nd round - LB Jordan Jenkins, Georgia. 6'3 259. Another player who brings toughness, upfield play, and pass rushing to the defense. You can't have enough pass rushers in this league, as demonstrated by Denver. - 3rd round - FS/CB Jalen Mills, LSU 6'0 195. - 4th round - ILB Antonio Morrison, Florida 6'0 235 (I think we get by this year with the LBers we currently have, but Morrison could be the future at ILB if he puts a year in an NFL weight room with NFL trainers). 5 - 7 - Add depth at DB and OL.
  18. True to Jerry Reese form, another stopgap injury prone linebacker.
  19. With every lower pick in the draft, we risk not getting guys like that. Teams were trying to trade like hell for Beckham, so it's a good thing we had such a high draft pick to reduce that risk of happening. If we had made the playoffs that year, and conservatively assuming we lost in the first round, we would've picked around number 24. No chance in hell Beckham would've been around then. We were fortunate to get Beckham in that draft but we may not be fortunate to get the player we want in the future. Winning out could cost us up to 10 to 12 draft spots.
  20. I'd prefer that we don't win out, and I know we won't. This team is plagued with a lack of talent and has no chance of making a run in the playoffs. We are a 7 and 9 team at best. Better to secure a higher draft pick, hopefully for a new GM and coach.
  21. Great, that will solve our depleted secondary, pass rush, and defensive line issues, while leaving our dynamic league leading (among them) passing attack.
  22. We're just not a very good team (Defense and Oline) 8-8 or 7-9 at best.
