  1. He can run between the tackles just as well as anyone, also has great agility in open space, can pass block, great hands, can be split out wide, can run screens etc. Two words: Matchup Problems; an LB if not a S is going to have to consistently be assigned to him, or else possibly get burned. This takes the pressure off other elements of our offense. He's going to be the type in the NFL that gets 250-300 total touches per year (rushes and catches), and puts up 1,000 yards+ from scrimmage consistently. Fits nicely for a #23 pick.
  2. And two Superbowl years :-). What's the average lifespan on their initial team for first and second round picks in general anyway? My guess is around 5 years.
  3. He's a LS who can also get down the field on punts and make plays. Shouldn't be understated. Many teams play with practically only 9 guys on punt coverage teams since the LS and Punters are otherwise useless after the snap and kick respectively.
  4. Assuming we sign some OLs this free agency, I'd love to see us take RB Christian McCafferey and TE Bucky Hodges in the 1st and 2nd respectively. That could throw opposing defenses way off balance. Both of the guys can play in traditional sets, and can also be split out in spread formations.
  5. Eli has never consistently had a great TE; maybe Shockey and Bennett, but those were short-lived. I'd be interested to see what Eli can do if he had a very good tight end. I think it would open up a new dimensions to this offense. For instance it might force defenses to pull safeties away from Beckham's, or make a very difficult decision to put an LB only on the TE. Lacosse is wishful thinking though. The draft seems to be pretty deep in tight ends this year. Guys like Howard, Hodges, Njoku might be first round worthy. Other decent ones might be available in the second or third rounds. Assuming we address OL needs in FA, this could be an option.
  6. Also who knows, maybe a guy we draft or bring in via FA makes up for the remaining sacks, if not outproduces. For much less...
  7. I go back to the production vs value argument....JPP produced 7 sacks in ~12 games. I bet Okwara could do let's say 5 in the same span. Are you willing to pay 16 million dollars (of our ~32 million in cap space) for the extra 2 or 3 sacks? And that payoff isn't guaranteed because the guy is oft-injured. To me, given the risk %, the 16 million has a net utility value of 0.
  8. The way I see it, if we resign JPP for that amount, it basically means we forfeit the remaining necessary cap space needed to fix the OL this year, which means we barely improve on offense in general, and that's the best case scenario... so we're right back to where we started as a Wild-Card contender. Didn't we go 3-1 in the regular season without JPP, including beating Dallas? I'll miss him, but he's not vital. The OL needs to be the priority investment.
  9. Here are the moves I would make: Re-signings: - LB Keenan Robinson - 4 years ~$18-20mm. Low signing bonus in case of injury. - DT John Hankins - 5 years ~$40-45mm (he's going to command this kind of contract on the open market) - K Robbie Gould - 2 years ~$4mm - LB Kelvin Sheppard - 1 year, vet minimum (decent depth for cheap) - CB Coty Sensabaugh - 1 year, vet minimum (decent depth for cheap) - S Leon Hall - 1 year, vet minimum (decent depth for cheap) - LS DeOssie - 2 years - QB Josh Johnson - 1 year, vet minimum FA and Draft - The way I see it, we have room for let's call it 2 major FA moves, 2 mid range FA moves, and 3 top draft picks (rounds one - three), so a total of seven slots. The seven slots should be a mix of the following, in priority order: 1 - OL 1 2 - OL 2 3 - WR 4 - DE 5 - TE 6 - RB 7 - LB (assuming we resign Robinson and Sheppard) Also cut JT Thomas to save $3mm...I don't know why we haven't already. Maybe waiting to see if we can bring back Robinson and Sheppard?
  10. My bet is Okwara can produce 5-6 sacks to JPPs 7 in 12 games next year. Are you willing to spend 16 million more of our 32 million in cap room for those two extra sacks? Make a run at Chandler Jones if you can. Plus, invest in the OL. We can find stopgap solutions for JPP in free agency or the draft. He's not with 16 million per year, on an 80 billion dollar contract.
  11. Okwara is decent. Enough to work with for now. OO needs to prove himself. I think not re-signing JPP leaves a gap, but I'm not sure I huge one. Will need to be address in FA or draft. I'd rather we spend that same money on Chandler Jones (if we're going to spend it on a DE), for instance. Otherwise, target a mid level free agent DE and/or early round pick. Not sure many good options will be there at #23 though.
  12. Great, we now have four #2 or 3 TEs on this team.
  13. That's a big IF though...plus when healthy, I'm not so sure he's really anything to covet, given that we have money tied up in Vernon and elsewhere. If you project out what his sack totals 7.0 would have been IF he had stayed healthy, we're talking 9 - 9.5. In terms of sack leaders, that places him around ~#17 - 20 among all leaders.
  14. My bet is another team will extend an offer in that range, 5 years 80 million.
  15. JPP is going to command at least 16-18 million per year. Probably in the 5 years 80 million range. I don't think he's worth it. He hasn't proven he can stay healthy, and he's a shade of his former self.
  16. I would like to see a 30 second timer for the pitcher to actually throw the pitch (resets of the batter steps off). If you the timer runs out, automatic ball. The games are so tedious to watch nowadays purely because the game doesn't move along.
  17. The TE from Miami and VA Tech look intriguing, may even be very late 1st round material. Howard has been an overall disappointment and never lived up to expectations at Alabama. But how much of that is due to them not leveraging him enough in the gameplan versus him just not putting it together? Others on here have suggested Leggett from Clemson in the 2nd, so I'll need to youtube him.
  18. Funniest thing happened in the Atlanta game which the giants aren't used to, which helped Atlanta to succeed and tear GB's defense to shreds. Their tackles actually pass blocked.
  19. Typical sequence of Giants drives 1 - Jennings dive for 2 yards. Jennings draw for -1. Pass incomplete. 3 and out. 2 - Jennings dive for 2 yards. Offensive holding. 2nd and 18. Will Tye pass for 7 yard gain. 3rd and 11; clearly way too impossible, so give up draw to Perkins for 3 yards. 3 and out. 3 - Jennings dive for 2 yards. Next play, sack caused by Flowers not touching a player or Newhouse/Hart getting bowled over. 3rd and 18; give up draw or 5 yard pass. 3 and out. 4 - False start (Flowers). 1st and 15. 10 yard pass to Tye or Shephard. 2nd down, pass or run play behind the line of scrimmage for -2. 3rd and 7; pass play, offensive line doesn't block, Eli under heavy pressure throws it away. 3 and out. 5 - 11 Yard run to Perkins. 60 yard catch and TD run by Beckham. Repeat sequence, whereby the next time around, #5 is Odell not scoring, Giants near red zone threatening, Eli fumbles or throws an INT trying to force the ball to Donnell who fell down.
  20. It's not for a lack of JR trying in the draft...it's his inability to draft good ones, and/or the coaches inability to develop the players. I'm not sure what the exact cause is, but I do know we need to fill in a starting capable LT, and RT, plus RG as well. Maybe Flowers is the RT or RG, but he's clearly not the solution at LT (not even short term). Given the investment of recent high draft picks on the OL, I'd hope JR signs two OL free agents to fill in the other spots, then maybe draft in middle-late rounds for depth and development potential.
  21. They don't have tackles who can block, have a mediocre Center and RG, and a B+ level LG only.
  22. If we do go QB, say in rounds 2-4, one guy to keep an eye on is Pat Mahomes from Texas Tech. I'm watching film on him, and the more I see, the more I like. He has a cannon plus an Aaron Rodgers like mobility.
  23. How many pictures and how many social media postings do they need of it before it becomes NOT okay for you guys? And don't give me this "the media exaggerated it" line...they took that and had it posted to social media for a reason...attention.
